Not everything can be mapped out in advance, that is true. Indeed, it is a truism. This call, however, remains as sterile as all the other calls by essentially White socialists with little connection to the actual working class or the youth that LaBlanc attempts his appeal toward by name dropping Greta Thunberg into his overlong and simply wordy text.
Women, immigrants, people of color–in that order and toward the youth–are the needed strategic orientation. Discussing the environment as some overarching strategy may seem revolutionary and indeed it is. However, calling for such an orientation devoid of looking toward and engaging the people most directly affected, specifically, only appears as a method for White and generally (relatively) privileged European “youth” activists to intervene in a “socialist convergence” without the bother of mobilizing the most oppressed layers of all societies and the world working class. This so-called call is the socialist equivalent of liberalistic White demagogy.
I could go on to explain, but it really isn’t for me to do as I believe that women, immigrants–in any country–and people of color (besides me) should engage this issue and it is unlikely there are many such of us on this page. At the least, truly revolutionary minded people here should examine this call from a much different perspective than what LaBlanc continues to offer as the “strategic” position that has guided the European-focused and U.S. Left for far too long.
