In fact, when Lenin arrived in Russia in 1917, the city now called Saint Petersburg bore the official name “Petrograd.” It was renamed “Leningrad” on January 26, 1924, five days after Lenin’s death. Zinoviev’s text on the arrival of Lenin in Russia was written later that year, and he opted to use the new name.
