What you have is of course a reprint by the Forward Group, published during the 1970s. The back cover of the original offered a list of then-available writings of Marx and Engels, with prices ranging from $2.25 (Capital vol. 1) to $.25 (Communist Manifesto). The original pamphlet was “mimeographed by voluntary labor for the Workers Vanguard Publishing Association”, which was associated with the League for Socialist Action. John Riddell.

It was created in the way you described. It has a handwritten “50” (cents presumably) on the upper left corner of the back cover; the cover is yellow card stock.

Text on the back cover explains the front cover illustration which also goes about 1/4 the way across the back cover: “This cover is a reproduction of one of the twenty-one panels in fresco that the famed Mexican artist Diego Rivera painted for the New Workers School in New York. It is Panel Eight of the series that constitute a graphic presentation of the portrait of America. . . ”

Below the additional text which takes up about 3/5 of the back cover is a coupon: “To keep up-to-date with developments and to be an effective participant in the struggle to build the socialist forces in the NDP, and make it an effective instrument in the Canadian workers’ and farmers’ struggle for a socialist Canada, you will want to read and subscribe to:
