Lisa, thank you for your generous comment. However, my account was written from the vantage point of my father at that time, who was working for a Cold War government. I did not try to portray the true story of the origins of the Korean War — although there’s a footnote referencing the main book on the subject. And I did not mention the brave actions of Canadian who opposed Canada’s involvement in the war, including, I believe, a great many from your family and community. That’s another story!

Hello John: Just as with Suzanne’s story of her childhood, I read your essay with a great interest firstly for walking your reader thru the steps that led to the Korean war which I well remember and the Canadian and US governments’ machinations and, secondly, because I enjoy learning about the lives of people, especially those with whom I am acquainted. So many have such incredible stories to tell and I am glad you have told yours. Now it can become a part of Canada’s history . Fascinating to read your history, John. I’m confident that your father would be proud of you: you’re made of the same fine stuff.
I can’t help but wonder if Pearson recognized his attacker on the CBC program you mentioned. I hope so!
